My buddy has been kind enough to let me borrow his underwater video camera for the entire spring.

It's a cool little color camera with a video monitor attached via cables. He uses it for ice fishing. This is a high end machine which should be perfect for checking on mooring tackle or whatever we can come up with.

I asked about letting Milwaukee Sailors use it and he had no problems as long as I keep track of where it is and that he gets it back before next winter. Cool guy, used to play football for Wisconsin and had a stint with the Packers.

Anyway, if anyone has a need, let me know and we can make arrangements.

Let me know when you're going down, and I'll watch how it works for you. . .

I can row the dinghy

Wow, he IS a great guy!(doubt I'd be that liberal with my equipment to some unknown guys). Hey, three's a crowd in a dinghy, but I'd really appreciate being allowed to tag along, watch/view it in operation. If need be, I could warp my dinghy up alongside, and throw a lashing?? That way I'd be able to participate in the classroom training? Bring a couple of beers? Advocate a quick peek at my own bottom hardware one future date?

Does it 'self-swim' via joysticks, or must you accompany it down?

Cool,

This thing is neat. You drop the camera down straight but you can pan around and zoom in with controls on the viewing box.

Can't wait to get out in the water.

Any idea how clear the water is in the basin?

Deb and I will be heading down to Florida for a couple of weeks. We leave next Thursday. I'll keep an eye on the weather and if the water is clear with decently warm weather, maybe we can try the camera this Sat or Sun.

I'll post with updates.

Hmm, I played around with a remote controlled one last year, but it wasn't for water use. Does it have a decent, self-contained light source?

As for McKinley: high noon on a sunny day will work best (w/o floodlights). I'd also suggest the sooner, rather than the later, as the marine growth is about to explode. I forget when the lake turns green with the water-born algae, but once stuff starts growing well, it'll only be more difficult. Point being, this is the time of year when the water should be the clearest.

Say but the word and I'll be there Saturday or Sunday. What kind of beer does underwater camera work call for?

Hey, no fair, Guy! I cry foul! (That's the line that I'm trying to use as I 'mussle' my way into/onto the expedition)

LOL,

I'm old enough to know that beer must be hidden/locked up until AFTER the work is done!

I'm planning on being on the water Saturday around 11:00. Don't know if I'm going in at MCSC or at the county boat launch. Any ideas? I think the piers at the sailing center don't go in until the next weekend.

I've been tinkering with the camera. It has a pretty nice set of LED lights which point to where you have the camera focused. Don't know how effective they'll be in the water but we'll see.

Everyone is welcome to come out at see how this experiment works out.

I'll be down at the sailing center at 11:00. I'm guessing launching may be as much of an adventure as trying the camera. Do you have a dinghy at the sailing center? I don't, but if launching is a problem, I can bring my canoe down. Not as stable a platform, but easy to carry down. . .

The docks/steps are not along the wall--it appears Jared has launched some, and tied them off.
