My baby girl Kate was born last Saturday. She had an extremely rocky start, but is doing much better now. She lost her heartbeat and stopped breathing during labor and had to be removed via emergency C-section. She was resuscitated and has been in intensive care ever since. It's been a trying week, but she's doing well and the doctors are doing their best to get her home. We can't wait for her to get home. Can't wait to see you all out on the water too!

Congrats to you guys. I can only imagine the emotional roller coaster you've all been on. Hopefully, the baby will be home soon and you can start cleaning spit-up off your shoulder. Hang in there.

Man that is awesome news, well except for the complications. Please let us know how she is doing as she improves. Bet she is going to be a tough gal after all that. Won't be long and she will be showing ol dad a thing or two.

All the best to your family Chris. Now then, rum and cigars all around.

There is nothing half so worth doing as simply messing about in boats

Ain't that the truth. It sounds like Chris was thrown head first into them. It really makes me thankfull my kids were uneventful deliveries. My hat is off to you Chris and your wife (name?). Raising three of my own and the better part of two more we have yet to deal w/ a life/death situation. After that the teenage pregnancy issue will be a walk in the park for you.

So how bout an update?!? Everyone doing ok?

Thanks guys! I still have my fears about the teenage years, but I'm so grateful she's doing well. After 12 1/2 days in intensive care, she's coming home today! She's passed all her tests and all her brain functioning is coming back normal. They say we won't know for a few years if she's sustained any damage that will impact her long term, but the doctors say that given the good function of her other organs, they think she shouldn't have any long term effects. She's still a little agitated. Who wouldn't be though after what she's been through. Since she suffered asphyxia during birth, they put her on a cooling blanket right away for 72 hours. They kept her body temperature at a chilly 95 degrees for 3 days. Apparently this keeps brain swelling to a minimum and prevents the brain from sustaining further damage after asphyxia. We believe it's done wonders and are so thankful that we went to this hospital where they employ such new and innovative techniques. I'll post some pics later today after we get her settled in here in her new bedroom!

I was wondering when we were going to hear about Kate. I am very happy to hear that they is doing well and coming home. It sounds like a very, very long couple of weeks. I hope that you and your family and now relax (as much as any one can with a new born) and enjoy her company. I look forward to the pictures! Congratulations.

Chris, that's good news.

Feel free to call or write if you need to talk or decipher some of the jargon the medical community uses so often.

Congrats on the new LIFE!
