TOPIC: Space to Build
#4152
Space to Build 5 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 1
Does anyone have or know of a space that I could rent/lease to build a new boat?

I need either warehouse with a large door or an outdoor open area large enough to erect a shelter

dimensions required for building/storage would be about 50'x25'x 18' high.

I would need location secured by spring 2013. I would need 3-5 years to complete the project and the area needs to be accessible by truck for final ship out to water.

Thanks!

Assuming you are talking about the F-39 ...

Can the various components be built in a smaller space first and then moved to a larger space for final assembly??

I also assume you would desire working on the project during the winter months. To what temp would the space have to be heated?

The strongbacks are 40' long. Initially I will build the pods, which require a smaller width, but still need the length. Since the plans are designed well, I used the same strongback and frames for both sides. When the first one is done, I simply turn all the stations around and start on the other side. In the meantime the finished pod could be stored outside.

Temps for initial workup, framing, foam stripping, etc needs space and materials at higher than 55degrees. For fiberglassing, it should be a steady 65-75 to avoid problems. The temp should not fluctuate to avoid issues with air bubbles/condensation until final cure. It is recommended to have the materials and epoxy at use temp for 48hrs prior and for 7 days after final epoxy coat.

An enclosed area inside an old barn would be great.. The one person I knew who had a space like this is moving!

I was actually thinking of getting one of these:

www.mdmshelters.com/industrial_round_large.php

Just need a place to put it that a truck can get to.

I can use a generator for power/heat or one of those propane jet heaters, but it would be better to plan on not doing temperature related work in the dead of winter.. just a blast to take the edge off while sanding/fairing/nailing whatever...

Sounds like you have the shelter figured out. I am not familiar w/ the Rhino Shelters but have been around these:

After 2+ years of erection the two I have been working around looked great. Might be worth getting a comparison quote from them.

All the best, Ev.

Thanks J.F. Gone. I have requested a quote from them.

Location still needs to be determined, but I think i might have found space next to a Barn in Grafton just off the main drag.. so we'll see how that evolves..
