Another one??? - Zac Sunderland's Younger Sister 2 Years ago Karma: 5
Abby Sunderland's Site

Zac Sunderland's younger sister is heading out shortly after her 16th birthday and on the heels of Jessica Watson's endeavor to be the youngest to sail around the world. She's taking the same route as Jessica Watson round Cape Horn, Cape of Good Hope and underneath the Australian continent. That's basically spending 3/4 of the trip in the Southern Ocean. The boat she's on is pretty cool. Looks a lot like a Vendee boat or something of the like.

The Southern Ocean would be neat to see. The Albatross's, South Georgia and all those landmarks from the Shackleton stories, but I wouldn't want to spend more than a couple of days down there. It's basically a gigantic area of wild seas unimpeded by land masses. The Drake Passage is the narrowest point where global air currents and water currents get crunched into the channel between Cape Horn and the Antarctic Peninsula.

I hope everything continues to go well for these girls. It's a pretty awesome accomplishment what they are taking on and something they'll have to look back on their whole lives. I wish I would've had that kind of motivation when I was that age...

I think that's one of the cool things the internet has done. Given young people the peer contacts, the world-view, and the confidence to believe "I can do that".

Much better paint job than the pepto pink boat!!!!

I really do wish them all the best. I can only hope aquire the skills to be able to do it. They apparently have them at an age when most kids are learning to drive.

I also must say that it's all fun and games till someone losses an eye....

First of all... CHRIST, but they've got rich parents! Yes, envious, would have loved rich parents when I was a kid.

I'm so jealous!
However, if it was my kid, I'd have to sail behind her in a 'back up' boat.

Yep, over-protective Dad, that's me!

Yeah that is true. Having the skills is one thing. Having the duckets to do the whole show is quite another.

And if tracking your 17 year old daughter 30 miles and pulling the 20 year old boy from her car is over protective then I am guilty.

Hey, Chris are you ready??
