Seems it's the new cool thing to do for teenagers... I sure would love to be doing it myself!

She's on an S&S 34. Nice boat. She's sailing the southern route which is ballsy. A 16 year old girl plans to sail around both capes... I'm not a nay-sayer so I wish her all the fair winds and good weather possible in the Drake Passage. You can read some more about her voyage at her site http://www.jessicawatson.com.au

Pretty cool!

She is definitely not taking the sailfar approach is she... I wish her luck and a new paint job for the boat.

Jessica Watson rounded Cape Horn. From what I read she's done so in 35 knots of sustained wind and 4 meter swell. Sounds like FUN!

Pretty cool that she's broadcasting videos and keeping such a close log of her trip. Very inspiring!

I saw a clip before she rounded and she seemed pretty non-chalant about it. I wondered if it would come back to haunt her w/ an ass whooping or not.

Wish her the best.

It'll all be fine, as long as the 12-13 footers have some distance between them and she takes them with a rolling gait, rather than a pummelling gait.

Her father's boat is certainly up to it, and I imagine she's been sailing since diapers, so it'll all be good.

Looks like she weathered a pretty brutal storm. 4 knockdowns - 1 of which she claims put her mast at 180 degrees - Reading shit like this makes me realize why everyone harps on the strength of your boat's rig. I don't know if she was pitch-poled or rolled over 180, but either way I can't imagine being in something like that and having your boat right itself with the rig still standing. Impressive!
