Getting ready for Big Boat Day 2 Years, 9 Months ago Karma: 3
I was down working on Orca this afternoon at MCSC, despite the rain and the bitter cold front. Jeeze-looweeze, what a cold Spring we're having this year. I hauled the outboard down and got it lifted up onto the transom. I found the 1 other guy crazy enough to be down there to give a hand.

If we can get a day or 2 w/o any rain between now and next Friday I'll be able to get the bottom painted.

I was down at MCSC friday night and got the bottom painted. The boat is ready for the splash on May 5th except for some minor cleaning of the interior. I put my bouy in saturday morning before the weather changed. I lifted my winter log into my dinghy and discovered the eyebolt was broken and the chain was just hanging there:unsure: . I was very lucky I didnt lose my chain over the winter I still cant believe it didnt come off.

The sailor responds to the subtle shifting of the wind, the imperceptible ebbing of the tide. He changes course. He trims his sheets. He sails.

If the weather on your side of the state is like ours today there won't be much painting going on. Loads of rain!!

Wayne, I use an eye on both ends of the log, with a 'Y' yoke of chain. Among other things, it alleviates a lot of the possibility of the mooring being dragged by the ice, pressure on the chain/eyes, etc. ~Gary

Wayne,

I bored a very large hole right thru my log and put SS band clamps around the log just towards the shot end of the log as a just-in-case. My chain goes thru the hole and back to itself to be shackled. Seems to work pretty good. I had to use a brace and bit by hand to bore that hole and it took awhile.

Well, we got Orca launched this morning. Feels fantastic, although I still need to get the mast on. All went pretty well at MCSC for the Big Boat Day.
