Mid-Winter sailing Blues just got worse 1 Year, 7 Months ago Karma: 4
My friend and 'crew' sailing partner of 3-4 years has just moved away from Milwaukee. I sail often, solo and otherwise. Hoping to find someone who likes to sail who might be interested (and interesting themselves) in sailing. I sail locally, of course, and usually do an event or two each summer such as sail to Michigan, trailer to Canada, sail the North Channel, etc. Say a sail outing once a week (maybe twice) after work, and one good lengthy decent outing each weekend, perhaps more? Either experienced, or inexperienced, let me know if you're interested.

Fair winds,

Gary

Hello Gary you say you trailer to Canada. What kind of boat do you have?

The sailor responds to the subtle shifting of the wind, the imperceptible ebbing of the tide. He changes course. He trims his sheets. He sails.

Hi, Wayne,

I've a Santana 2023 I keep moored in McKinley. When I dump the ballast weight, she only weighs in at 1,580 lbs, so trailers quite nicely. Hmm, not sure if I've a pic on this work CPU... if so, I'll try and attach.

I sail 3 or four nights a week, with one long one on the weekend. I've been sailing out of the sailing center, but would love to give you a try.

There is nothing half so worth doing as simply messing about in boats

Hey, Guy, sounds good to me. Sadly, I cannoit sail quuite that often during the week, as the wife and kid insists that I should spend SOME time with them! Is it mostly the Ensigns that you sail? ~Gary

I get out on most of the boats--my 13 year old likes hanging off a 470 if the wind is up. The Solings are the best boat if the wind is light. And for the cold days, or bringing a big crew, the ensigns. . .

One of my more favorable sails was several years ago in an Ensign from the sailing center. 28 knots steady with some minor gusts, reefed, and that old Ensign remembered how to get up and dance! I was very impressed at (suddenly) how nimble, spry and responsive the Ensign became in that air! Great outing, everything 'gelled' all at once. Sure wish they'd let me take one of their Ensigns out again in that air. My Santana is significantly more tender, at least in the beginning stages of heeling, using a small centerboard, and not having a fixed keel. I've never been on a Soling, just admired them as they raced by me in such light air. Would be happy to crew for you (and anyone else) on anything, and you're (all) welcome to some Santana exposure, should you like to give her a try.

Gary I have a trailerable boat also a Catalina 22. We have never trailered it anywhere just keep it moored at South Shore. If you would like to go for a sail to compare how it handles compared to your Santana feel free. I would be curious to see how other trailerables handle.

Most certainly will take you up on the offer! Similar in size to my Santana. Everything I've read/heard through the years states you should try out as many different boats as possible. Hopefully a bunch of the guys here would be willing to do the same. How come you never trailer it? I did the North Channel last summer. Great time, thinking of returning to it this summer rather than the Apostle Islands... though I've not done the Apostle's yet.

Gary we bought the boat in August of 2007 and did not launch it until the spring of 2008. I need to put new trailer lights on the trailer and I sold my 10mpg Dodge truck this summer. I would love to trailer it places but right now we are going to learn on Lake Michigan and hopefully one day travel with it.
