Hello!

I'm a skipper from the University of Iowa living in Lindenhurst, IL for the summer. I would love to get on a boat for weekly races and some bigger regattas. I have experience working the bow on a T-10. I would LOVE to get on a larger J-boat. email me if you're intersted: patrick-kresch@uiowa.edu

Hello Patrick!

Welcome! Sorry I didn't see your post sooner. I think JohnJT, or WayneM on here might be able to hook you up with the right people. Otherwise I know another member who's very well connected in the race scene here in Milwaukee but doesn't ever post.

I plan on doing a couple regattas, but my boat is the opposite of fast. I might do the MAST races on Friday night.. but that's mostly cruiser boats pretending to go fast.

The Wednesday night races at SSYC would be your best bet. Lots of fast boats, couple of Mumm's, lots of J's, etc.. It's a competitive circuit that still has a lot of fun.

BAring -- you still watching our posts? Bob would be a great guy to talk to I'm sure.

Hey Patrick. I went through this last year and hooked up with a boat at SSYC on Wednesday nights. They'll probably have a Crew Search party in April, but I haven't seen an actual date. I went through the email link on the webpage below and that person (Cookie Mueller) sent me a list of skippers that were looking for crew.
Here's the webpage that I used:
www.ssyc.org/index.php/sailing-fleet/crew-search

Good luck. Hope to see you out on the water this summer!

And Chris, I did a couple of MAST races in prep for the Queen's Cup. Great group at MAST and very fun/relaxed racing. I wish I could get away from work early for both SSYC and MAST races (but the wife might have something to say about that too)!

The MAST races are definitely more my speed... you can relax and not be the last one across the line... For us it was a victory just to get a successful start and finish. My wife doesn't dig the Friday nights too much as that's usually a night we go out to eat.. I can probably only do every other week and that might be what I do this season if at all. My boat's got all the racing gear, except the full keel and 9000 lb displacement.. oh and competent skipper.. but it's still fun to race.
