We didn't fare so well in the MAST races this year, although when we did show up for the races, and/or start on time, check in, we kicked butt!
By far the most painful race of the year was a windward/leeward race in which the wind just died at the end. We sat, longing for the finish which we inched towards from about 300 yards away. Finally, after a solid half hour, we got about 4 knots of wind which filled our sails and started moving the JAM fleet closer to the finish. No sooner did our bows start bobbing over the waves when the committee boat mic'd up the radio and called the race. The real insult was all the higher division boats that made the finish before the wind died got a finish. If you're going to call a race, make it fair!
I'd also be interested to know if anyone was in the race early in the year where the mast came down after a collision near the leeward mark. Anyone out there that was on one of those boats? I'd love to hear the story. We saw it happen from about 200 yards away, but didn't see how it came to pass.
