Hello my name is Everett and I am an alcoholic....oh shit that's the other place. Well I do like good beer and not far from my log cabin bar is our boat. She is a 1977 CM 32 in the beginning stages of a re-fit. She won't likely splash till 2010 at which time we will keep her in Milwaukee.

I first sailed aboard an ex-racing catamaran on Gull Lake outside Kalamazoo MI when I was about 12. My Godfather sold it and I didn't sail again till I was 40. My wife and I have sailed out of Milwaukee a few times and Miami a couple times. We don't claim to know much and would like to take classes this summer and hitch a few rides if possible.

It is great to have a Milwaukee based site as I am 3 hours away and it is difficult to just hang out on the docks and meet people. If anyone happens by Boscobel stop in for a cold one and some boat talk.

Stay warm

Welcome Everett! Glad to have you here. I don't think there is a 12 step program for sailing, the only cure I have been able to find is sailing itself.

What's the name of your bar?

Haha - Welcome Everett! Too bad your bar wasn't closer than Boscobel. It'd be great to have a place to lament our winter blues and tell tall tales while swilling beers

What's the extent of your refit? Please post pics of your progress... would be very interesting to see!

Everett glad to hear from you. It sounds like your boat will be real nice when it splashes in.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. Good to talk to sailors who are a bit more local.

The bar is called the Chicken Ranch. My wife reserved rights to the name as it was supposed to be a chicken coop. As I was nailing down the last shingles a couple friends stopped and we decided it should be a bar. Wife had the swinging doors and I had the mirrors and bar so it didn't take long to set up.

The bar is always open and there are only two rules; #1- No Phones, #2- No Fighting (there just isn't room). The beer is free as long as it holds out and there is always something harder too. Normally I have around 10 different beers available. Of coarse carry-ins are welcome.

OK sorry you asked right? I'll get some pics rounded up.

Well Chris the Ale House is definitely warmer right now.

The refit gets more extensive the more I look around. Big things are rigging, wiring, electronics, add solar, new batteries, paint, new stove, shit tank, etc, etc. I will get some pics together and do a re-fit thread. Someone will likely have input that will save me from screwing up and making the list longer.

All the best

Welcome to the forums.

I'm always open to taking the boat out on a nice day. Seeing as I'm officially retired, I'm hoping to spend a lot of time on the water this summer.

Greetings and good day, my name is Scott. I have made it my goal to get a boat to live on, in the next couple years. I sailed a lot when younger, and would like to learn how to make proper boat repairs, and race this year. I am a carpenter by trade, and built homes for 20 years. I actually was helping build a boat from scratch, steaming the wood, to bend it until that project came to a halt. Anyways i would like to learn how to maintain a boat, gain some experience with that, and would like to offer my help, for free, in exchange to learn the proper way to make repairs. I also would love to become part of a team for racing this year. So if there is anyone out there, looking for a hand, please consider me. I want to learn the correct way to make repairs, so hacks need not apply. Thank you and have a great day, i look forward to hearing from you!

Hey Scott, Welcome! I admire your goal of living on a boat. I have had such thoughts, but a huge mortgage, the wife, and a baby on the way have directed my attention elsewhere.

You should start a new thread for your introduction... This one is the one that Everett started.

I think there are quite a few on here who would be able to help you learn boat repairs. I'm not one of them Getting on a boat to race will be an easy feat. I've found that just sitting at the bar at a yacht club unsuspectingly will often land you on a boat with no effort whatsoever

I'm sure plenty on the site will be looking for crew as the weather warms up.

Welcome!

Welcome Scott nice to hear from you. Like Chris said it shouldnt be a problem finding a boat to race on. I believe the SSYC has a crew party where skippers look for crews. I am no expert at boat repairs as we had our boat one season but I have done some maintainance and completely refinished all the teak on board. Glad to have you on the site.
