Hi everyone. As winter comes (eek, not yet!) and there's less time for the tiller and more for the keyborad, joining your forum seems like a good way to pass the yucky months in MKE.

I've been a Sailing Center member for a few years, got rated on all their boats, and just got my own boat last month. Now I'm looking for a place to keep her. She's a nice little trailerable 20-footer, but I'm hoping to keep her in on a mooring if I can find one.

Enjoy the rest of the sailing season everyone!

Welcome to the club and good luck on your mooring search.

And I do mean good luck on your search for a mooring. It is like a secret society that no ones knows about or talks about. I spent a lot of time trying to find out information about them and trying to buy one last year, I did finally find one earlier this year.

At the MCSC they have a book of boats and other things for sail at the main desk, you might want to give that a try if you have not already. There is also the McKinley Anchorage and Mooring Association, they have a website that does not get updated much. They supposedly keep track of moorings. And of course you can always try and find one through Craigslist. But watch out for scammer bastids on there. I had some guy offer to sell me one for $2K atat McKinley, but I guess I asked too many questions so he stopped answerring my emails.

Supposedly someplace at South Shore there is a for sale board or book, I never found it, but admittedly did not look very hard.

Welcome Jerred.

You might want to speak with Gene Cramer (sometimes on thie site, owns Lyra right on the channel by the MCSC)

He was president of the McKinley Area Mooring Association the last time I attended a meeting. He may be able to steer you toward a mooring.

There is nothing half so worth doing as simply messing about in boats

I don't know if this is a goofy idea: There a few moorings in the Southshore area that never had boats on them. Might be worth rowing around the mooring field and writing telephone numbers off the mooring balls that do not have any gear on them, and giving them a call. Maybe they want to sell, or rent. The ones with the yellow caution tape on the ball were secured (nobody ever returned to take the winter stick out, I think).
