Scott here I had sailed with the UWM sailing club for a year, met some great people but was disappointed with the access to the boats and instructors. Bought my first MacGregor 25 9 years ago. I bought it from an estate, and it needed a little work.
I only had it out twice when we found out we were expecting our second child. Two children later the youngest now 4 I've decided to return to sailing. Another Mac this time a 26S from an estate again. The boat is solid, but had been left untouched for 3 years, I've spent the last six weeks trying to get her ready to put into the water. the last hurdle is getting the 9.9 to run. A big challenge here is that the family couldn't find any keys for the boat so the laz and cabing locks had to be cut off.
The motor has a locking bar on it so unless I can get masterlock to help me with key possibilities I'll need to do the work on the transom. The boats in my drive hopefully we'll see the water in September as vacation and work travel will keep me busy most of August.
I'll basically be relearning the skills and look forward to drawing on the experience of the forum to help me out even though its a MacGregor.
My plan was to mostly trailer sail, but am thinking that it would be nice to be able to put the boat on a mooring for a couple of days or weeks while I work on my sailing skills again. The setup for the mac in my opinion is more like 45mins to and hour than the 15 minutes advertised. But not having launched it yet I'll have to report on that later. Does anyone know of any moorings that might be available at south shore or even Mc Kinley that aren't being used or might be for rent for a couple of weeks or days this year or next hopefully we're looking at this year to get her in the water.
Thanks

Welcome!
I think badgersailor is a MacGregor owner. They look like really fun boats. As for a mooring, head on down to South Shore and look at their board. I bet there are a number of them listed. If not, someone in the bar surely knows of one. I have a friend that recently sold his boat that had a real nice mooring rented that is currently unoccupied. I can ask him for contact info if you'd like.

Welcome! Sounds like you're in for a good time.
I may be able to help you with a mooring on the south side of South Shore. It's about 200 yards from the launch, straight out from the South Shore pavilion. If you plan to row to your boat, this is a great location. We purchased it along with our Catalina 22, but to be honest, we've never used it. I had bought another mooring when we were still looking for a boat. You'd have to look at it and judge for yourself if there's enough real estate for your boat. It was inspected(unofficially looked at by another sailor/diver) and said to be in good shape.
I'm sure we could work out a REALLY cheap rental for the rest of the season (REALLY, REALLY CHEAP) , and if it works for you, I'd like to sell it. Let's say it would be one of those "motivated seller" situations.
Send me a PM with contact info if you're interested.

Scott,
Welcome to the board and welcome back to sailing. I got my start with the UW-Madison sailing club.
Never apologize for the boat you own. The MacGregor 26S is a classic sailboat and in a class apart from the MacGregor powersailors. I had my 26M powersailor for four seasons and just sold it last weekend. It worked well for my family but didn't fit us for future cruising on the Great Lakes.
I would echo Doug & Chris … there are a number of mooring in the south SSYC mooring field. I’m sure you could pick one up for the rest of the season. If a mooring isn’t for you, mast-up storage at McKinley is a great alternative to backyard `n rig every time. I used McKinley’s yard for a season and it took longer to get the cooler in the boat than it did to launch.
I’m often in Milwaukee during the week and may be available to go out with you if you need some crew while you re-acquaint yourself with your new ride.
