Permission to come aboard? 1 Year, 8 Months ago Karma: 0
As a newbie to sailing, I just wanted to say “Hi.” As with any hobby, it’s always fun to talk to other "experts" willing to share their experiences. The boat is actually my son’s. As a shop teacher, I’m the Engineering officer, machinist’s mate, electrician’s mate, ship’s carpenter…. I’m finding the transition from a camper to a sailboat very easy: there’s always a water leak and the electrical needs work. No wheel bearings, but all the other hardware makes up for that!
Myrtle has been moored on the south end of South Shore for three weeks now. (I think she was the 6th or 7th out there this season) and we’ve been able to enjoy this windy weather a lot. The little Catalina 22 must be very forgiving, for I think I’ve made just about every mistake I can. My biggest problem is simply not doing things fast enough, but I’ll get better. Luckily, my son is MUCH better than I am! His craft may be small by some standards, but she’s been a blast for us so far. Maybe we’ll grow into something bigger down the road.
Keep your sails full,
Doug

Welcome Doug! Glad to have you on with us

Catalina 22 is a real nice boat. Another member, WayneM, has one. They are classic good old boats and are very popular.

That's great that you are getting out so much. I'm at South Shore as well, or at least I will be next weekend. Look forward to seeing you out on the water!

Hey, we're neighbors! I'm just south of you; I'll be sure to look for 'myrtle' next time I go out.

Hey Doug,

Always nice to see more sailors on the site.

We always like to hear and see about sailing adventures both near and far.

This summer is really looking to be packed with on the water stuff.

I'm excited to go out for the Air and Water show. The fireworks from any of the festivals are great to see from the boat.

The Queens Cup start is awe inspiring. Last year we participated. This year we'll be watching from a respectful distance just to take in the sight.

We are blessed to be based in Milwaukee with an inner harbor large enough to sail in. When the waves are coming over the breakwall, we can still get out for a nice sail inside the wall.

Lots of nice sailors here.

See you on the water.

There is nothing half so worth doing as simply messing about in boats
