Hello all,

Spending my life on Lake Superior, I now have the opportunity to explore & enjoy the places & people of Lake Michigan.

Wishing only to be in, on or around the water all my life -- my main mode of transport has been kayaking and canoes until 2 years ago. It was my fortune to discover the Milwaukee Community Sailing Center and last year received my medium air rating.

This year I hope to make many more maritime memories. I've come to appreciate the camaraderie in this boating community and am humbled by the skills & reservoirs of knowledge.

So if you are looking for a new, new crew member (or even ballast), even for one sail, keep me in mind.

Hi Pam!

Welcome to the forum! I'm sure you'll be able to get out on some boats this season. I got my start at the Sailing Center as well. Great organization, great people and those Ensigns are such excellent boats.

The one thing that I found out after I started crewing in some races was that at the sailing center you don't get to go out in the best kind of sailing weather --- WINDY! Also, you don't really get to go too far limiting you to just daysailing without any real destination. That being said, you'll definitely find some opportunities to get out on some different boats here and in some much more fun conditions.

I have to imagine Lake Superior was far more interesting than Lake Michigan. I have a hope of getting to the Apostle's with my family one day on our boat, but that's gonna be one heck of a long vacation. The people are great here though, especially on the forum

Glad to have you aboard Pam!

Welcome Pam. I also lived on water in coanoes, then kayaks for 30 years (in the Minnesota north). Discovered sailing at the Sailing Center several years ago.

I hope to sail with you this summer.

There is nothing half so worth doing as simply messing about in boats

Hi Pam,

Welcome aboard. If you're looking for a regular sailing gig, South Shore Yacht Club is sponsoring the annual Milwaukee Bay crew search event this Saturday. A cut `n paste copy of the flyer is below. This is a great way to hook up with a boat and sail Wednesday evening, some weekends or whenever you can make it.

I crew on SnakeBite, a 30 foot Pearson Flyer, and we will likely have a rep at the event & I know we are looking for weekend crew.

Welcome Pam! You've found a great forum (that I stumbled on just one year ago)! The South Shore racing is a great experience. There's also MAST racing on Friday nights that is a little more relaxed, but I don't know how to go about getting crewing opportunities for that one. I would guess just hang out at the Sailing Center/McKinley South Docks and asking if anyone needs some more crew.
Again, welcome!

A most welcome aboard, Pam! This is a great site to gain at least a modicum of your sailing needs, and the people are very nice. I keep my boat down in McKinley, and am ALWAYS happy to meet someone new, and go out for a sail! In fact, I sail enough, that I am always very pleased to make the acquaintance of someone who will hopefully turn into a 'regular', or a 'near regular'. I was spoiled up until about a year ago, when my good sailing buddy moved to Minnesota. Had spent years sailing with him and, grouchy though he was at times, it made for a good time to sail with someone well known to both me and the boat. Hence, why I would be happy to take you sailing this summer and, in fact, if you read enough of this forum, you'll see that I've taken many a one here out, usually posting the 'obligatory' photo of them sailing my boat, so as everyone can then put a name to the face!

In any event, should you wish, you have my extended 'open ended' offer to do some sailing. I can be found here, so if you ever are interested, please feel free to send me a 'PM' (private post) and we can set up a sailing get-together.

Again, welcome aboard, and hope to 'sea' you out there!

Gary

P.S. <to Chris>: why are our posts now being 'extended' across the whole of the page?
