Hey guys,
Stumbled across this forum while doing a little research about moorings in Milwaukee.
I have a few years sailing experience and joined the UWM sailing club this last year which hasn't been what I though it would be. I'm looking into purchasing a boat for next spring and trying to work out the logistics, I'm hoping this can be a good resource.
Thanks,
Dan

Hey Dan,
Welcome to the forum! You'll find lots of help here... We're a small online community but an all around good bunch.
I'm currently on the hunt for a boat as well. Best of luck in your quest!

Welcome aboard Dan. I bought a boat in past week, found mooring at McKinley. I'll be exploring all those logistics over the next six months as well.

There is nothing half so worth doing as simply messing about in boats

Boat name is Fungi. I thought that was a sign from heaven. . .

First, welcome, Dan! This is a great group of guys (though I've not met any of you yet in person) but very helpful and honest (in my experience)!
And let me just say, Guy...there's a fungus among us!
Dan, make sure you throw any questions out to the group that come up. Even if the answer is complex, this group will come up with multiple responses and ideas. In any event, we/they've seen many things and might just have an idea that you haven't thought of quite yet.

Well that's the first thing I have to figure out, isn't it.
I think I would like something that is trailerable so probably 25 ft or less, though I will only trailer it to save some money on storage costs. Otherwise I would like to get a Mooring spot.
I'd like something with a cabin, so I could camp on it. Besides some day sails, I would like something I could take across the lake on a couple weekend trips.
Solo piloting might not be a bad feature, though I will be splitting it with a friend so this probably isn't necessary. I don't plan on competitively racing, but something with a little bit of a racing spirit might be fun.
Most of my experience so far is on Ynglings... I've sailed on a Catalina 25 quite a few times and I've been out on a J24. Both of these seem like boats that would have a good balance of advantages and disadvantages. (J24 not being solo-able, Cat being a little less of an aggressive sail).
So any recommendations or advice would be great.
Thanks!
