What work is everyone doing on their boats over the winter? 3 Weeks, 5 Days ago Karma: 1
here is my short list:

Replace shaft packing
Replace water pump impeller - COMPLETED last weekend
Replace strut bearing
Replace shaft anode - COMPLETED last weekend
Bottom paint
Repair or replace rudder—top is cracked and also has a blister (I'll have to do this in place, drop the rudder down far enough to work on)
Remove all deck hardware (completed), sand, prep and paint deck, add non-skid where needed - could delay entry based on weather conditions
Replace all running rigging
Replace mainsheet blocks or install traveller - depends on tax return!
Finish remodel of sanitation system (new holding tank and hoses)
New Batteries

Wishlist Items
AutoPilot - Maybe I can find a good used tiller autopilot? Any recommendations here would be great...
Wind anemometer replacement - lost in storm some time ago
New anchor rode and chain - anchor only has 3' of chain on it now? WTF
New sails
New throttle handle that I don’t have to hold to keep it set (or tape down)
ChartPlotter

Unless your boat is stored indoors I recommend building a tarp structure over your boat for painting. The boat yards are too dusty for a good result. And, as you noted, weather is also a concern.

I repainted my deck last winter while the boat was stored outdoors with just the normal plastic tarps over it.

On sunny winter days (without wind) the temperature easily got up to 60 or 70 inside the plastic tarps while it was in the 20s outside. It required a lot of contortions and a good mask (painting while high on fumes never looks as good as you think it does). With good sun exposure on the tarps, I was actually sweating while I did this, even though it was below freezing outside.

The only parts I couldn't get at were the edges where the tarps meet the deck. I did that (and any touch-ups) after the tarps were off in the spring. That way I only needed 1 perfect day to finish it up -- no wind, no rain and temps above 50.

You need a minimum of two to replace the deck hardware. If you need some assistance, feel free to give me a yell. That's one heck of an impressive 'to do' wish list. What's your deadline for getting it all accomplished?

That does sound like a big list, but then aren't you the sailor who was looking for a barn to build a boat in? Your current list probably sounds small compared to that!

Must do:
Touch up bottom paint. Not happy with last year's job.
New cleat/clutch/something on clew end of mast.
Get longer bolt for tiller to rudder and drill hole for cotter pin. (Seems every time I switch sides, I lift the tiller and it was working the nut off! Would have been a genuine "Oh Poop!" moment if I'd lost it!

Want to do:
Rig up spinnaker. Most hardware seems to be there. Need to get sheets, halyard, and masthead blocks. (Crane is already there.) Con some knowledgeable sailor into showing me how to use it!
Install fish-finder/depth gauge. Want to try a few new places this summer, and when drawing almost 6 ft, I really should know where the bottom is!

Maybe/Not sure: reinstall solar panel. Had used one, but then installed generator on outboard. Seemed to work, but near end of summer battery went dead.

List my harbormaster wants me to do: Stain the deck, stain the fence, redo the bathroom, paint the living room................

My list is very short......

1. Get mooring fixed or a new mooring.

2. Find a boat.

That pretty much covers it.

Anyone have a good source for halyards? I'd like to have one end whipped, the other spliced to correct shackle.. sbo site everything is backordered and has been for months...

Couldn't you just get the line, whip and splice yourself, Zack? I can confirm that the smaller the line (in diameter) the DAMNED harder it gets with double braid! As in, could do a couple of 6" lines in the time it takes to splice a 3/8" line. Mostly because with the bigger hawsers, you can literally reach your entire arm into the core, lol's. This small stuff today is technologically advanced compared to years ago, tighter (wrapped) cores, tighter covers. Same principle, though, and I imagine that if you did a few, they'll only get easier. I was the hot shot kid in the Navy with this stuff, so decided to do a small splice the other year. Wow. Am sure many years of rust didn't help... but it was tough with the adlib tools (i.e. metal coat hanger). If you decide to tackle it yourself, and if (?) you've never done it before (?), feel free to give me a yell.

Ah... this offer is to ZACK.

sure, but i don't know how and don't feel like learning on my own main halyard... I'll just call and see what the eta might be.. also found not bad pricing at Mauri pro.. they do the whipping and attach the ronstan shackle.
