This boat is in South Haven.

Lello sailboats were built in South Africa and are real ocean cruisers with a deep draft. I have not looked inside this one but if you are looking to cross oceans, a Lello at $6,000 is a deal.

Note the correct spelling is Lello, not Lelo.

That's a cool boat. I did a quick read on them -- solid glass decks and hull? Never heard of them before

There doesn't seem to be much info around on them, but I was able to find out a few things.

Here is a gentleman with a blog and some pictures. www.getjealous.com/peterjfacci

And another forum with some basic info. www.boatdesign.net/forums/sailboats/seek...e-designs-21509.html

I wonder if the boat he's referring to is the same one? This post was from 2008.

Quite probable as I wouldn't expect too many boats built in South Africa to have made their way to Michigan.

Thank you for your replies. I had found, in fact, a 1980 vintage 34 Lello in Michigan, USA, and was seriously considering a rebuild, the price was right. Unfortunately, it seems the vessel had been left unattended (owner illness) for a number of years with an accumulation of rainwater inside the hull, high humidity and subsequent apparent delamination and rot. I certainly now have an appreciation of Mr. Lello's work, thank you.

I was curious too. I sent an e-mail asking for more details on the boat.

I also looked at this boat. Beautiful deep narrow shape. Interesting rudder (all metal, kind of a corogated (sp) look behind the rudder post.

This boat has topsides damage. whether a tree fell on it, or snow, the cabin top has delaminated, and you can see sky where the top of the cabintop should be meeting the side of the doghouse.

At 6K it's a steel if you're an Everett with patience. It'll be a beauty when done. Was sitting outside in July in South Haven.

I talked to the owner about 5 years ago, he had just returned from the Caribbean. I took a look inside, there was an african carving in it as a support post in the cabin. This was a long time ago.

It has a deep draft of about 6 feet, a little too deep for South Haven harbor, at least if you want to go upriver.

Definitely an ocean crossing sailboat.

For my week of vacation this summer I dropped my daughter off in South Bend and wandered north, looking at everything in my price and length range. I saw everything from New Buffalo to Whitehall. Brokers, yacht club bulletin boards, etc.

I have just the boat for you. 33 foot Rhodes designed Swiftsure. Beautiful, full keel, manufactured in Holland. Pilot berths, standing head room, early atomic four.

Small wiring issue in head. It'll probably cost $20k. Like the Bristol, except big, perfect, and nice overhangs. About the same inside volume of a current 28 footer. . .

A boat you could fall in love with.

I've seen the Rhodes Swiftsure. It is a GORGEOUS boat. The lines are absolutely awesome. I just can't afford it. I'm going to buy something for cash and we can't swing any more than 10K. I sold my vintage Gibson Les Paul Custom, and am considering selling a couple more of my guitars to raise funds, but for now I have to stick in the 7-10K range. I think I've got it down to these boats:

Pearson Ariel
Bristol 27/29 (prefer the 27 with outboard)
Cape Dory 27/28 (pricey)
Pearson Triton (hard to find)
Columbia 29 (Sparkman & Stephens variety)

Keep your eyes peeled for me guys!
