Huh, spotted it immediately upon viewing it from my home system. Not sure if that's it... could be anything... but @ the 50' view, it appears to have definate lines to it. I'll see if I can spot it this spring.

Ev, how did I know that it'd be you that caught it, man?

Guess it must be an "old" thing. No one else has chimed in.

Just to 'date' myself, I believe I may still have the album sized rolling paper (that came with the old album) way bac... ah... oh! Umm...come to think of it, I believe that paper took a good quarter of a pound or better of 'filler' to finally achieve its great resting place in the sky.

Damn, bet that would be a collector priced album these days, especially if I still had that (supposedly) joke rolling paper (worked perfectly, LOL's!).

Oh, those bad old days! Backed up Ford truck in the drive in movies, cooler full of iced brew, lawn chairs in the truck bed, brownies on the side, stuffed bongs everywhere... and not a THREAD of 'fresh air' anywhere in the drive in...

Yep, them were the days, seeing as you were still allowed to BBQ prior to darkness...

((For real, I don't miss them days AT ALL!))

I say, do they even still HAVE drive in theaters these days? If so, I should take my kid before they're completely extinct...

Anyone know?

Is that album Big Bambu?? That is one thing I miss w/ compact disk, the extras. Also there were some great artwork that just isn't the same or is not even available in the cds. And if you download forget it.

As for the drive-ins. We went to one last year north of Ft. Atkinson somewhere, I'll have to ask April exactly where as I was celebrating our anniversary/4th of July a bit too much to remember. I do remember they were very strict about carry ins of any kind and had cooler Nazis making the rounds and did check if they even suspected. I couldn’t believe it was happening but they went through coolers. I guarantee if anything like the old days were tried you would end up tried in court. As Sonny Barger says, "Freedom is not just another word"

There is one close to us in Richland Center but that's a bit far for you.

The world could sure use more LOVE rocks I think...

How'd Janice sing it?

"Freedom's just another word, for... nothing left to lose.."

And I hear you on the album art... which is a lost iconoclastic snap shot of America back in those days.

Dang, speaking about America, didn't 'America' have some great album art back then! What was the one with the floating mountains? Whoops! That might have been some Zep, now that I think about it...

Wow, I seriously murdered a WHOLE BUNCH of short-term memory cells back then!

Umm... what were you saying?

Well as long as we're flashing back, last night we were watching part of the SNL box set. The July 31, 1976 episode featured Kris Kristofferson and he told of writing Me and Bobby McGee. I was not aware of this and being a music buff had to google it this am. Interesting results, for me anyway, as there is a bit of legacy to the song. Not only did Janis' version hit #1 (being 1 of only 2 in history to be posthumous)but also Gordon Lightfoot's version hit #1 in Canada. (I'm a big Lightfoot fan). Remember Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald?
More here if anyone is interested; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Me_and_Bobby_McGee

Anyway it was one of those dazeavous (sp) moments having just touched on that quote about freedom. "What a long strange trip it's been" comes to mind.

OK, so we were talking about this rock.... or a beach... or something....

ZZ!!! "What a long strange trip it's been"

You're a Gordon fan?
I accidently broke an album of his back in the... well, never mind when. Jeez, took me about six years to locate a replacement. Here's one of my FAVORITE's of all time:

'Old Admirals'

Now, those of you with the know how, should post a magic link here where we can all listen, then grade it.

Hey! How about a 'winter time only' sailing song grading competition? Pass the time? My hidden agenda, is I haven't heard the song in years, LOL's!

Ev, how about 'Father and Son', by the Cat? Whoa... classic!

Oops! Sorry, everyone! Wasting bandwidth... but it's really EVERETT's FAULT, LOL's!

Johnny Cash did a neat rendition of Father and Son with Fiona Apple.

That song.. the wreck of the edmund fitzgerald drives me insane. The song just drags on with that same melody line over and over...

Perhaps I've heard too many renditions of it in bars...

Yep the original Fitz was a bit slower. He must have realized it to because on Gord's Gold Vol 2 he sped it up. Not much but a few bpms. And it is a dirge, though a tribute to the men who died doing what they loved and what apparently calls to us also, being on the water. Lightfoot has a few songs of sailing.

Love Cash, dad played him most Sunday mornings before church when I was a wee lad. Sunday Morning Coming Down is maybe my favorite. Incidentally also written by Kris K.

This poor thread has not only been hijacked but taken hostage so maybe we should get a music thread going. Let me get the family off to work/school and I'll come up w/ something.
