Nice article about Love Rock. I hadn't known it was a man made structure. How unbelievably assinine that this 'navigational hazard' (only to a blind sailor!) got destroyed to just under the waterline... where it now truly IS a hazard, one that can sink vessals. What cool politicians we have. Says a lot, that after all these years, they STILL have not taken it down several more feet in depth to avoid boating damage.

Can you post a pic from Google Earth that shows it, even if underwater? That might let me triangulate it a bit easier. I lost google earth about a year ago and, sadly, for some reason, I can not get it to again download on my system

Well, you must have better eyes there than I do, Chris.
I don't see 'jack'.
Shall we go find it this year?
Why not?

Sounds like a plan Gary! hahah

I think you can see it in the map. It's about 2000 feet out from the beach. It doesn't look like a rock though... Not sure that's it, but it's the only thing out there that doesn't look like bottom features

You see that horizontal line in the deep water that isnt google type. That might be the crib which lines up with that highlight on the water which sort of looks like a boat or a reflection.

They both line up with north avenue which is the location of the old north point intake and "not-so-lovely-anymore" rock.

Closest sounding on the noaa chart says 14 feet.

I'm still liking the idea of the russian submarine captain trying to explain how he scratched his paint on a sailboat.

Man, you guys are stoned! Pic doesn't show a damned thing out there. What have you boys been smoking?

My work monitor is old, and pretty bad... but can't be THAT bad?

Prank?

Staring at map:

See the boat with the wake? Isnt that the square rock a little west and a little north?

How old is that image? It looks like early spring (no leaves) but some green grass. Is that ice in the marina?

And where is FatCat (visible from space)? Not at the mooring and not in the parking lot.

It says Google Earth 2009 but the water level looks really high compared to today.

BTW I saw 3 people out ice fishing in the McKinley yacht basin yesterday, while Bradford had open water with waves. How scary is that?

Ok, ok, ok!

Well, OK, I'll check it out with the better resolution I have at home.

But if you guys are pranking me, I SWEAR! Then I'll force you to do some sailing this upcoming season, how's about THAT! LOL's!
